Every day, little things remind me of the people I love.
Most of the time, the moments pass, I smile at them to myself, and thats it.
HILU is an experiment in connection.
I enlisted my husband as my first guinea pig, with the following loose instructions:
- preface all texts and emails with Hi, I Love You.
- tell me how you feel when I do the same
- observe what happens
Its kind of amazing the result this had on our daily lives, the ways we felt more connected, gave one another the benefit of the (lack of communication) doubt, our overall happiness.
(Warning: HILU can be habit-forming. When we forget, things do fall apart a little bit.)
So I set out to create something we could use with our broader community of family and friends, something beautifully designed, simple, capable of making us all feel something– loved, cared for, noticed, thought of, missed.
I’ve been wearing a t-shirt around town with Hi, I Love You. on it. It makes people smile. I’ve gotten random hugs. People want it (love, I suspect, though the shirt is nice too).
